During the first edition of the NEW NOW festival at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein, the landmark of the Ruhr area was transformed for the first time into a “Living Sculpture” for digital arts. During the first three weeks of the festival, international artists worked on new works in the mixing plant of the former Zollverein coking plant. They created a lively festival whose works grew over time and which lived on the encounters and experiences of the participants. The three intensive production weeks culminated in a two-week exhibition.
The technology experts from Blue Wheels fully supervised the festival and equipped it completely with digital media and event technology. The biggest challenge was to respond flexibly to the wishes of artists as part of the creative processes, whose works were created virtually in real time and always created new technical requirements. In order to transmit the digital works of art and make them tangible, the experts from Blue Wheels relied on high-performance video technology, such as 4K laser projectors with a performance of 50,000 ANSI lumens, 4K camera and streaming technology, and sound technology from L-acoustics.
